The Importance of Having a Good Accountant
During my experience as a lawyer in this area of Mexico I have had to advise many foreign citizens which unfortunately had not been well attended regarding their company's financial and countable issues. As a consequence of that in some cases they paid taxes, actualizations and fines in excess which they could easily save with the proper countable advising.
For many of them the service they received only consisted in the creation of a corporation, the corresponding payment for register that corporation before the Tax Authorities and the annual payment of taxes. It is important to mention that the fees they paid for those minimum actions in most of the cases were not the lowest of the market by contrary words like "abuse" or phrases like "This is the way to do business in Mexico" are an intolerable constant.
For those reasons our firm gives you the following advises in order to contract the appropriate accountant:
- The accountant has to be certified. Always ask your accountant for his professional license (Cédula Profesional).
- Ask for references or for letters of recommendation regarding your accountant.
- It is always better if the accountant has experience with foreign citizens and if the recommendation came from someone you trust.
- The countable terms and regulations and the process for pay and calculate taxes are complex, for that reason it would be extremely helpful for you if the accountant you hire speaks the same language as you.
- It is better if you keep records of any inquiry and recommendations from your accountant regarding countable issues.
- Being updated and qualified is necessary in order to provide a professional service. The countable regulations change year by year for that reason it is important to know if your accountant is constantly updated.
